Keeping Federal Housing Money In Federal Budget Is Crucial to the Housing Sector
A report released by CHRA on September 27, 2007 shows that annual spending by all levels of government on affordable housing has been in a steady decline since the early 1990s, falling by $700 million from the peak in 1993 to a low in 2002.
ONPHA has joined with CHRA and a coalition of other housing groups across the country to advocate for the federal government to ensure that funds from expiring housing agreements are re-investe back in housing.
Expiry of Federal Operating Agreements
Over the next 30 years, the obligations of senior government to fund social housing will gradually expire, housing provider by housing provider. How will your non-profit be affected?
ONPHA has partnered with CHRA to raise the profile of the expiry of operating agreements issue among key stakeholders through a strategic campaign.
ONPHA and CHRA want housing providers to begin to analyze the impact of the expiry on your own projects. To this end, we have created an easy-to-use single-project spreadsheet along with a user guide so that regular providers can plug in your numbers and get a snapshot of how the expiry will impact your portfolio. We have also created a multi-project spreadsheet for large providers and Service Managers, along with a separate user guide .
ONPHA will be trying to identify providers whose commitments are expected to expire earliest, and work with them on advocacy strategies. If your operating agreement is set to expire by 2010, please contact david.peters@onpha.org. ONPHA will also be working with Service Managers to better understand this issue.
