ONPHA has tabled it's 2008 Provincial Budget consultation brief with the government. The Minister of Finance is conducting consultations around the province. ONPHA also appeared before the all-party Standing Committee of Finance and Economic Affairs. Read ONPHA President, Hugh Lawson's remarks. The budget is expected to be tabled in March 2008.
Inclusionary zoning is regarded as one effective planning and development tool that several municipalities outside of Ontario have used to ensure an adequate supply of affordable housing. Recently ONPHA commissioned a report on inclusionary zoning to examine this concept, the experience in other jurisdictions and how it might be adapted to an Ontario environment. Read the report.
The Provincial Government is back to work after the recent election and has issued its Throne Speech to set out the agenda for the upcoming legislative session. The speech talks about "providing more affordable housing" in the context of the anticipated proverty reduction strategy. A high-powered Cabinet Commitee is being created to head up the proverty reduction strategy.

ONPHA has submitted a response to the background paper of the Ontario Human Rights Commission on "Human Rights and Rental Housing."

ONPHA's 2007 province-wide waiting-list survey is one reliable measure that establishs the need for affordable housing in Ontario.
